BECOMING: Own the Vision

Most people don't realize their goals. Many of those who do, end up returning back to their original baseline within a few short months.  Sound familiar?

Why? Because they didn't own the vision. Without the ownership, when you get there, you feel like an imposter. You feel like it could be taken from you at any time. You feel (and succumb to) the pull of the old you. It doesn't have to be that way.

Consider this? Did you know that 70% of lottery winners spend every last dime of the jackpot within 5 years.  Why? Because they didn't Own the Vision of BEING a millionaire.  They didn't learn how to manage that kind of money. They maintained their old habits, beliefs, relationships. This is the same reason only 20% of Americans who lose weight are able to keep it off long term. They don't see themselves as the kind of person who lives the lower-weight lifestyle.

As you are BECOMING the kind of person it takes to achieve the goals you want to achieve, you have to Own the vision!

What does it mean to Own the Vision?

A vision is more than just what you see. If you've been reading this series on BECOMING, you may already have a vision. Hopefully you've been working on Believing that this vision is possible for you.  But how clear are you on this?  Engage all five senses.  Getting it out of your head and onto paper (or a screen) is essential.  Find the words or the pictures that describe what you want in so much detail that you can see, smell, feel, hear, and taste the experience.

What is your goal?  What will it mean to you to have achieved this goal? How will your circumstances be better than they are today? How will you be better? How will you increase the value you contribute to the world by having achieved this vision?

Claim it as yours. In the musical Hamilton, Alexander Hamilton says a line that stuck with me: "I've imagined this moment so often it feels more like a memory."

Imagining things in your mind's eye has a similar effect in your brain as experiencing something for real.  By doing this, you are becoming that version of you who enjoys life on the other side of your goal: because you start to think and act like that person.

Claim it proudly by writing it. And by reading it - out loud - every day - morning and night.  It helps you to truly believe. I  helps you to see how you could act and think in order to make it come to life. And it taps into the Law of Attraction.

This is NOT about pretending and deceiving yourself.  It is about having a clear and compelling picture f what you want to achieve and why it matters to you.  It gives you a sense of purpose and direction that guides your actions and decisions.

Do what you can with what you have. Here's a great exercise: Start by answering these questions as if you are already living this vision:

  1. Describe your surroundings. Where are you living, working? What do you have? Engage all 5 senses? What do you See? Smell? Hear? Feel? Taste?

  2. Who is with you? Describe your relationships.

  3. Describe your circumstances in great detail. How is your life different as a whole, having achieved this vision?

  4. What are your predominant thoughts?

  5. What did you learn along the journey? What were the major milestones you won along the way?

  6. What are your daily, weekly habits?

  7. What brings you joy?

  8. What skills have you mastered or learned?

  9. What value are you contributing and receiving?

  10. What beliefs of today did you shed because they were holding you back from your full potential? What new beliefs have you adopted to unleash that potential?

Once you've answered these questions and captured any other future-focused positive momentum, review your notes.

What can you start, stop or change right now to own you vision? To step into it.  Highlight all of them.  Maybe you imagined your morning routine with vivid detail: You can start building that routine now.

  • Own the pieces of your vision that you can incorporate into your day and life today.

  • Keep imagining yourself as having already created the reality of your vision.

Imagination will build belief. It will help you see the components you can embody and own now. It will build your confidence. It will replace the doubt. It will help you start living the vision bit by bit. By the Law of Attraction, you'll find the world is conspiring to help you in every way possible.  Receive it!
